New Delhi: The 43rd India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2024 concluded on a high note with a remarkable achievement for underprivileged artisans. Supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (M/o SJ&E), their collective efforts garnered record-breaking sales of Rs. 5.85 crores, making it a landmark year for promoting grassroots talent.

The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, inaugurated the Ministry Pavilion at Bharat Mandapam on November 15, 2024. Over the two-week event, the artisan stalls attracted an overwhelming number of visitors, showcasing the rich diversity of India’s traditional crafts and entrepreneurial spirit.

Diverse Participation from Across India

Artisans from 18 states and Union Territories including Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal participated in the fair. These regions showcased a plethora of indigenous products, blending tradition with creativity.

Products that Stole the Spotlight

Visitors were treated to an expansive array of handcrafted items such as:

  • Textiles: Chanderi sarees, zari silk, block-printed garments, and woollen clothing.
  • Accessories: Artificial jewellery, leather goods, Rajasthani mojris, and handmade bags.
  • Decor & Essentials: Cane and bamboo crafts, perfumes, incense sticks, and toys.
  • Edibles: Pickles, namkeen, and other regional delicacies.

Empowering the Underprivileged

The Ministry’s initiative to empower marginalized artisans paid off as the event not only provided a robust platform for sales but also connected these artisans with a broader audience, including potential long-term patrons.

Speaking about the success, Dr. Virendra Kumar stated, “This achievement reflects the talent and dedication of our artisans. The Ministry remains committed to creating more opportunities for them to thrive.
