Xiaomi India Aims Big: "We Are Just Getting Started," Says CMO Anuj Sharma

Xiaomi India Aims Big
Xiaomi India Aims Big  for their  popular smartphone and electronics company, has sold more than 35 crore devices in India in the last 10 years. But according to Anuj Sharma, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Xiaomi India, the company feels like it’s “just starting out.” Xiaomi has big plans for the future and is getting ready for the upcoming Diwali festival with a strong marketing strategy.

Doubling Shipments and New Products

This means they plan to sell 700 million products in India over the next 10 years. Even though Xiaomi has already sold millions of devices, they believe there’s much more to do. They are working on expanding their consumer electronics range and launching new devices like smartphones and TVs.

Marketing Strategy: TV and Outdoor Advertising

To attract more customers, Xiaomi is focusing a lot on TV and outdoor advertising, especially for its premium devices. They are spending 50-60% of their marketing budget on advertisements that you see on TV and billboards.

Competing with Apple and Samsung

Xiaomi is competing with big brands like Apple and Samsung by making sure its devices are available for all price ranges. While Apple products are usually expensive, Xiaomi wants to offer innovative technology at affordable prices. This way, more people can enjoy advanced features without having to pay a high price.

Building an Ecosystem: Human, Car, and Home

Xiaomi is also working on building its ecosystem, which means connecting different devices like smartphones, TVs, and even electric cars. For example, if you set the temperature of your air conditioner at home to 22 degrees, your Xiaomi car will also pick up that setting when you get in. Xiaomi wants its products to work with other brands, too, so people can use them without feeling trapped in their ecosystem.

Focusing on Premium Devices

Xiaomi is best known for its mid-range smartphones, but now, they are entering the premium segment, where phones cost more than Rs 70,000. They want to reach out to customers who are willing to spend more on advanced features, and they are focusing their marketing efforts on TV ads and premium billboards to promote these high-end devices.

Preparing for Diwali: Home Electronics and New TVs

As Diwali approaches, Xiaomi is also focusing on home electronics, like TVs and other gadgets. They recently launched QLED TVs and are working hard to compete with brands like LG and Samsung in this space.

Challenges and Opportunities: Xiaomi India Aims Big

Despite its success, Xiaomi faces some challenges in India. One major challenge is that internet access is still low in Indian households. Only about 10-12% of the 290 million homes in India have an internet connection. Xiaomi believes that as 5G spreads, more people will connect to the internet, allowing them to sell more products, especially smart home devices.

Looking Ahead: What's Next for Xiaomi?

Xiaomi has big plans for the future. They want to push the boundaries of technology while keeping their prices affordable. The company is looking forward to capitalizing on the 5G boom and improving its home automation ecosystem. In the next 10 years, Xiaomi hopes to double its success and sell 700 million devices in India.

In the words of Anuj Sharma, “We shipped 35 crore products in the last 10 years. Now, our goal is to double that in the next decade.”
